People looking to access fresh and local foods now have a chance to do so while saving some money.

The B.C. Government has committed $4.25 million for the B.C. Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program.

This will be the second year for the program, which sees people have greater access to local, fresh produce, eggs, dairy, meats and more, while also supporting local growers.

“Access to healthy food is one of the foundations of good health, and farmers’ markets are wonderful places where people can connect with local growers, support local businesses and enjoy the harvest of the season,” Josie Osborne, Minister of Health, stated.

“The nutrition coupon program helps more people and families purchase fresh, local food at participating farmers’ markets, while supporting B.C. farmers and strengthening food security in communities throughout the province.”

The coupons can be accessed by people in the Okanagan, and those are distributed by community partners.

  • Vernon Farmers’ Market – North Okanagan First Nations Friendship Centre, Archway Society for Domestic Peace; NexusBC Community Resource Centre
  • Armstrong Farmers’ Market – Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs
  • Enderby Farmers’ Market – Enderby & District Community Resource Centre
  • Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market – Central Okanagan Food Bank; Interior Health – Nurse Family Partnership; KCR – Community Resources; Ki-Lo-Na Friendship Society; Seniors Ourtreach and Resource Centre; Society of Hope; The Bridge Youth & Family Services

  • Sicamous Farmers’ Market – Eagle Valley Community Support Society

“The program is helping more people access and enjoy fresh, nutritious food grown by B.C. farmers, while strengthening local food security and supporting producers and small businesses,” Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture and Food, said.

“B.C. farmers’ markets bring communities together to celebrate the delicious and unique flavours of each region, and the coupon program helps more B.C. families share and enjoy the experience.”

In 2025, the program operated in nearly 100 B.C. communities, and the coupons supported around 8,200 households that year.

“We all want people to be able to access nutritious, healthy food in their communities,” Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, said.

“This funding helps more people, including seniors and families, put fresh food on the table, while also investing in local agriculture.”
