People encouraged to ride for Spring GoByBike Week

Vernon and area residents and visitors are being asked to put on their helmet and mount their bike for their daily commutes later this month.

The Spring GoByBike Week runs May 30 to June 5, during which people are urged to leave their car at home and instead ride to work, school, when out for errands, and when out for pleasure.

People cab also participate by choosing other modes of active transportation including e-bikes, scooters and e-scooters, skateboards or rollerblades.

The City of Vernon encouraged people to participate, noting there were a number of multi-use paths, bike lanes and neighbourhood connectors in the community that people could access on their bikes.

In addition to encouraging people to ride, the city will host a number of community events and activities over the course of GoByBike Week.

  • Kick-Off Celebration at Polson Artisan Market and Community Ride: A ride from the park on May 29th, with the market featuring a bike theme and having cycling information, activities, giveaways, and parade
  • Social Bike Rides: Starting during GoByBike Week and continuing through the summer, residents and visitors can sign up for social bike rides led by an experienced guide, with information available here
  • Celebration Stations: Booths set up throughout the community where riders can get refreshments, access cycling resources and bike supports, and make community connections
  • Bike-Themed Community Activities: Family-friendly activities, community challenges, and opportunities to ride through Vernon and support local businesses, with the schedule available here

People who participate and log their rides online, either as a solo rider or as part of a team, will be entered into a draw for a number of local and provincial prizes, including the grand prize of a new e-bike.
