The North Okanagan is getting a boost to help in its journey to become a sports destination.

Through the provincial Destination Events Program, grants will be provided to support several events in the region.

  • Crankworx SilverStar – $25,000
  • Vernon Winter Carnival – $19,000
  • Sovereign2Silverstar Ski Marathon – $14,000
  • ISU North America International Adult Figure Skating Competition – $11,000

“Our region has become a true sports destination welcoming athletes, their families, and fans whose presence strengthens our tourism economy and local businesses,” Harwinder Sandhu, MLA for Vernon–Lumby, stated.

“These grants are a strategic investment to keep major events here at home, ensuring we continue to generate lasting economic and community benefits for years to come.”

The program provides grants of up to 10 per cent of an event’s total budget, up to a maximum of $150,000.

The figure skating contest will go at Kal Tire Place September 16-19.
