One RCMP detachment in Metro Vancouver splits into two, serving separate communities

Apr 1, 2026 | 10:16 AM

MAPLE RIDGE — A Metro Vancouver RCMP detachment has officially split following a multi-year process to separate.

Both police and the City of Maple Ridge say the former Ridge Meadows detachment, serving both Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, is now two autonomous detachments.

The Mounties say the de-integration comes after the British Columbia government approved the separation in 2021 and the transition process began.

The new Maple Ridge RCMP will retain the detachment’s office and contact information, while the Pitt Meadows RCMP moves into a new location with interim front-counter services available at the local community policing office.

RCMP Lower Mainland District Commander Elija Rain says in a statement that the de-integration will not impact ongoing investigations or the delivery of policing services to both cities.

Nicole MacDonald, mayor of Pitt Meadows, says the newly dedicated local detachment “marks a significant step forward, allowing for more dedicated resources, enhanced local oversight and a stronger focus for each community.”

“This transition supports more responsive, effective policing services that are better aligned with the unique needs and priorities of Pitt Meadows — helping to build a safer, more connected community for years to come,” MacDonald says.
