Burtch Rd. improvements set to begin

Feb 26, 2026 | 7:00 PM

Two years of road improvements along Burtch Road will get going next month.

The City of Kelowna said they’re part of the bigger plan to create a north-south link from KLO Road to Glenmore Road.

The hope is that it will ease pressure on key routes and shorten commute times.

The project will deliver a new 1.6-kilometre section between Denver Road and KLO Road. It will also feature two travel lanes, protected bike lanes, sidewalks, street trees, and other traffic improvement measures.

In a media release, the City said construction is anticipated to start in late March on various road improvements along Burtch Rd. from Highway 97 to Bernard Avenue, as well as improvements on Bernard Ave. between Burtch Rd. and Glenmore Rd. in conjunction with the Redeveloped Parkinson Recreation Centre.

Highlights include widening Burtch Road and Bernard Avenue to four lanes, the addition of an advanced left-turn signal from Burtch Road onto Highway 97, safety and capacity improvements, transit stop upgrades, an active transportation corridor on Burtch Road, and several other intersection improvements including extended left turning lanes, improved right turns, and new signals.
