Good Citizen Honoured
A community leader has been honoured for her contributions.
Marie Morris has been presented with the Good Citizen of the year award by JCI Vernon at a surprise ceremony at the People Place.
Robbie Hoyte from JCI Vernon says Morris has volunteered for many groups, and at 78, is still going strong.
“It recognizes someone who goes above and beyond in the community and makes a positive impact over continued community service,” Hoyte tells Kiss FM.
Mrs. Morris was nominated by her daughter Susan Morris, who says her mother has always given back to the community without a second thought.
“We surprised her at the People Place. They were having a Special Olympics meeting. She was speechless, and she was blown away,” adds Hoyte.
The 78 year old Morris will receive a plaque along with 500 dollars to donate to the charity of her choice from the Okanagan School of Massage Therapy.
Mrs. Morris is currently on the board for Special Olympics.
All five of her children took part in Thursday’s ceremony.
She also has 10 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren.
