Erratic Kelowna driver ‘didn’t deliberately mean to cause harm’

Aug 21, 2025 | 6:00 PM

Kelowna Mounties are investigating some alarming driving Wednesday evening but say it appears there was no deliberate attempt by the driver to cause public harm.

The new SUV was involved in a hit-and-run, then performed dangerous maneuvers at several intersections, before it hit a parked vehicle in the pedestrian section of Bernard.

The driver was arrested. No one was hurt.

In a media release RCMP said the car was driven erratically in the areas of Bernard Avenue, Abbott Street, Clement Avenue, St. Paul Street and Ellis Street.

Officers arrived on scene and observed the driver of a newer black SUV performing dangerous maneuvers within several intersections.

The vehicle eventually entered the “Meet me on Bernard” pedestrian zone, which is closed to vehicular traffic during the season.

The vehicle ultimately came to rest after colliding with a parked vehicle.

Police are asking for witnesses and relevant video footage.
