Wildfire near Bear Creek Park on west side ‘Being Held’

There was some good news late Sunday morning amidst the serious wildfire situation around Okanagan Lake.

The BC Wildfire Service said the fire near Bear Creek Provincial park, northeast of West Kelowna was rated a “Being Held” meaning it is no longer out of control. It was measured at 20 hectares.

The fire, about 10 kilometres northeast of West Kelowna had prompted evacuation alerts but those have been lifted.

No growth occurred on this incident overnight. The fire is currently exhibiting primarily Rank 1 fire behaviour meaning a smouldering ground fire with no open flame, white smoke and slow rate of spread.
