The BC Wildfire Service said the Quilpituk Wildfire had doubled in size from 40 to 80-hectares midday Sunday and was burning rank 3 and 4 at the head of the fire. That means a moderate to highly vigorous surface fire and flames climbing up into the crown of the trees.

Crews have completed a sprinkler line set up along the powerline on the west flank. This morning they will be continuing to establish hoselay for water delivery to the fire’s edge and conducting danger tree assessments and falling as they work their way around the fire perimeter. Crews are working on the south and east flanks and are being supported by helicopters.

Airtankers and skimmers may work on this incident throughout the day as visibility and objectives allow.

The Quilpituk Wildfire burning on the west side of Okanagan Lake has prompted further evacuations.

The fire was measured at 40-hectares and still burning out of control since it was first reported just before midnight Saturday night.

Central Okanagan Emergency Management issued the new Evacuation Order late Sunday morning for La Casa (including La Casa Lakeside Resort and La Casa Cottages) .

Evacuation orders had already been issued in the early hours of Sunday for the area north of Nahun and south of La Casa.
