UPDATED: Ongoing evacuation orders for wildfire near La Casa

An EVACUATION ORDER has been issued for properties in the Killiney Beach area. Residents on evacuation order should leave their properties immediately to keep safe. The evacuation route is south on Westside Road and please follow instructions of emergency personnel and traffic control in the area.

Sunday 1:25 p.m.

An EVACUATION ORDER was issued by Central Okanagan Emergency Management due to the growing Quilpituk Wildfire burning on the west side of Okanagan Lake.

The latest orders are for properties in the lower Fintry, Valley of the Sun and Ewings Landing.

Residents on evacuation order should leave their properties immediately to keep safe.

The fire has grown to 80 hectares.

Sunday 12:40 p.m.

Residents in North Fintry to the border of the Okanagan Indian Band land are now on evacuation alert. Refer to the interactive map on coemergency.ca/map where you can search by street address to determine if you are affected.

Central Okanagan Emergency Management said residents in the evacuation alert area are advised to remain prepared for potential changes in conditions and pending updates from emergency officials. At this time, do not self-evacuate or get into your vehicle unless specifically directed to do so, as unnecessary travel can contribute to congestion and hinder emergency response operations. Instead, use this time to prepare your emergency kit, gather essential medications, important documents, pet supplies, and other necessities that you may need if an evacuation order is issued.

Sunday 12:20 p.m.

The BC Wildfire Service said the Quilpituk Wildfire had doubled in size from 40 to 80-hectares midday Sunday and was burning rank 3 and 4 at the head of the fire. That means a moderate to highly vigorous surface fire and flames climbing up into the crown of the trees..

Crews have completed a sprinkler line set up along the powerline on the west flank. This morning they will be continuing to establish hoselay for water delivery to the fire’s edge and conducting danger tree assessments and falling as they work their way around the fire perimeter. Crews are working on the south and east flanks and are being supported by helicopters.

Airtankers and skimmers may work on this incident throughout the day as visibility and objectives allow.

Sunday 11:40 a.m.

The Quilpituk Wildfire burning on the west side of Okanagan Lake has prompted further evacuations.

The fire was measured at 40-hectares and still burning out of control since it was first reported just before midnight Saturday night.

Central Okanagan Emergency Management issued the new Evacuation Order late Sunday morning for La Casa (including La Casa Lakeside Resort and La Casa Cottages) .

Evacuation orders had already been issued in the early hours of Sunday for the area north of Nahun and south of La Casa.
