Vernon looking for outside funds to support climate resiliency workshops

Vernon will be trying to secure some outside funding to support its Community Climate Action Outreach Strategy.

Under that strategy the city offers Community Climate Resiliency Workshop, free events that include:

• Climate Conversation Cafe, facilitated community conversations involving impacts of climate change, climate-related distress, and opportunities to build community resiliency
• DIY Air Filter events that see instructors help people build a simple and affordable air purifier
• Emergency Preparedness workshops where people can learn how to create emergency plans, checklists and grab-and-go bags
• Native Seed Ball Making where participants learn about native plants and create seedballs to plant
• Transportation 101 education and engagement sessions to inform people on the city’s Transportation Plan and on how to navigate active and public transportation
• Sustainable Fashion Clothing Swaps/Repairs workshops for people to learn about sustainable fashion, exchange used clothing, and repair clothing to extend their usage

To help bolster these initiatives, the city will look to secure provincial funding of up to $100,000 through the Mental Health and Climate Change Community Action Grants program.
