Canada Day Bash In the Works

Jan 25, 2017 | 5:41 PM

The Village of Lumby applied to the Canada 150 Program for 15-thousand dollars for their Canada Day Celebration this coming July 1st.

The federal program has informed council it won’t likely get that much, but how much they get won’t be confirmed until March or April.

Mayor Kevin Acton says the Village is committing 5-thousand dollars from it’s own budget to cover part of the costs.

“We’ve already started securing bands and activities for that day because it’s a huge celebration with Canada 150 Day coming up. We want to make sure that people in Lumby have every opportunity to celebrate it.”

Acton says the growth pattern actually began last year.

“We’ve been trying to make it a little bit more interactive. We brought in live music last year, we brought some extra things to do last year, some food vendors, so it’s slowly growing.”

Acton says the community has been trying to build it’s Canada Day celebrations to make it bigger the past few years.
