Vernon Vipers new head coach
The Vernon Vipers have named Matt Cooke as their new head coach and general manager.
“I’m incredibly honoured to be named the next Head Coach and General Manager of the Vernon Vipers,” said Cooke in a press release. “The Vipers are a team with a rich and storied history. I’m excited to be a part of rebuilding a culture of excellence and returning this organization to being a perennial contender for the Fred Page Cup.”
The Belleville, Ontario native played 1,046 NHL games over 17 seasons, winning a Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009. He most recently coached the Newfoundland Growlers (ECHL) in 2023–24.
“This is a special day for our organization,” said Vipers owner Tom Glen. “Matt brings tremendous experience. His work ethic is second to none.”
