Mosquito control hits the streets
Crews will be out July 19–23 treating more than 12,000 catch basins across the Central Okanagan to help keep mosquito numbers down.
Wearing high-vis vests and using bikes, scooters, or marked vehicles, teams from Duka Environmental (hired by the RDCO) will drop eco-friendly larvicide into roadside drains to target larvae.
Drivers and cyclists are asked to give them extra room as they work near curbs and bike lanes.
“Our aim is to target mosquitoes where they start, helping to keep populations low and reduce the risk of nuisance and disease transmission, including West Nile virus,” says Curtis Fediuk, Senior Biologist with Duka Environmental Services Ltd.
