Spallumcheen Looks At Fortune Creek Future
Fortune Creek in Spallumcheen continues to pose a problem for residents living along its banks.
The Township supplied more sand and sandbags on the weekend.
Mayor Janice Brown says it may be time to look at the diking system
“To make sure that taking it on as an asset or a liability to the township is, you know, we’re doing an assessment and we may have to ask the province for more money.”
She says otherwise if the Township takes it over, the residents would have to pay for maintenance.
“Sure we can fix it for 800 thousand and province you can turn it over to us and we’ll maintain it. That’s all fine til you see what’s happening out there right now.”
Mayor Brown says dredging and berm building continues.
“We just have to assess it a little bit better and see like what I say what the worst case scenario is and what potentially could happen even if we do 800 thousand dollars worth of work.
Mayor Brown says even if diking is improved, problems will continue because of the high ground water level
