Heat At Your Feet-Pros & Cons of Heated Floors

Nov 4, 2024 | 3:00 AM

Heated floors are popular for good reason, but they’re not for everyone. Dennis from Arden Tile laid out some of the pros and cons of heated tile for your bathroom, and how to decide whether they’re worth the investment.

First things first

“My first question to my clients is always whether or not they like the feel of warm tile under their feet. Not everyone does,” he said. Stepping onto warm tile feels like a luxury for some, while others prefer the sensation of cool tile. “Often it’s a battle of the spouses and I’m the referee.” He added that for people who like warm floors, a heated tile floor in a bathroom is worth the investment.

Cozy from the floor up

It’s about more than how it feels on your feet. A heated tile floor provides a pleasant ambient air temperature for a bathroom. “There’s nothing worse than the feel of forced air blowing on you in the winter when you get out of the shower,” stated Dennis. Rather than creating drafts, the radiant heat emanating from the floor warms the room gently and evenly.

Water also evaporates quickly off heated floors. No more stepping on cold puddles hours after your kids took a shower!

Smart thermostats

The programmable thermostats offer advantages like setting energy-efficient heat schedules or using your smartphone to turn the heat on and off. On the other hand, like any electronics, there’s the possibility of a failure in the programmable thermostats. Dennis said sometimes a power surge or heavy usage can cause a malfunction.

Most heated tile floors have warranties of three to five years.

Increased property value

Heated tiles not only add comfort and a touch of luxury to your bathroom but can also help enhance the value and overall appeal of your home.

“You should get some value back out of your heated floor investment when and if you decide to sell your home,” stated Dennis. Many buyers put heated tile floors on their list of must-haves in a potential home purchase.

Weighing the decision for warm

If you’re ready for warmth beneath your feet and can invest in the upgrade, heated floors might be the perfect choice for your bathroom. Arden Tile is available with more details as well as DIY advice if you’d like to do the install yourself.
