A request for financial aid to support O’;Keefe Ranch has been denied.

The Ranch requested the city of Vernon provide $150,000 in funding for operational purposes. A letter to the city stated the ranch’s operating expenses had been “increasingly rapidly to a large extent due to utilities and inflation in general.”

A city staff report recommended the city not provide the funding, though did recommend continuing to honour the original lease agreement between the city and the O’Keefe Ranch and Interior Heritage Society by providing an annual payment of $10,000. That lease expires on March 31, 2027.

Vernon City Council received the request and the staff report at the regular meeting Monday, Oct. 7, and council agreed to not provide the additional funding but to honour the lease agreement.
