Vernon Vipers off to hot start

The Vernon Vipers find themselves on top of the BC Hockey League’s Interior Division standings after going two-for-two on their Lower Mainland road trip.

Julian Facchinelli scored 4:37 into overtime to lift the Snakes over the Chilliwack Chiefs 5-4 on Saturday night.

Ethan David made 31 saves for the win in net before 2,022 fans at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

It was the Vipers fourth straight win and was preceded by a 7-2 Vernon win over the Langley Rivermen on Friday at the George Preston Arena.

Vernon native Erik Pastro led the Vipers with two goals and one assist while Sherwood Park, Alberta product Colin Reay made 25 saves in goal.

“This was a great weekend for the team,” Julian Facchinelli told vernonvipers.com. “We never gave up and came out with a huge four points. It was definitely a step in the right direction and I’m very proud of the guys. We’re going to enjoy Thanksgiving and get right back to work.”

The 4-1 Vipers next play Friday, Oct. 13 when the host the 4-2 Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
