UPDATE: Crash west of Falkland claims life

UPDATE: 5 p.m. Feb. 1, 2023

The BC Highway Patrol says one person died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 97 in the Monte Creek area, near Kamloops on Tuesday (Jan. 31).

The incident involved a semi-truck rolling onto a car, with no other details released at this point.

The accident closed the highway for several hours.

Officers continue to investigate the cause.

UPDATE 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.31:

Highway 97 near Monte Creek between Falkland and Kamloops has reopened to general traffic.

DriveBC stated the scene had mostly been cleared and traffic was once again moving along the highway as of 4:35 p.m.

Motorists are advised that traffic control measures were still in place and flaggers will be controlling traffic through the night until a vehicle involved in the incident has been removed.

Drivers are advised to slow down and expect delays, and to also drive to conditions.

Vernon Matters has requested details on the incident Tuesday, but as of time of publication the RCMP had not responded to the request for comment.

Drive BC is reporting a vehicle incident on Highway 97 east of Monte Creek between Falkland and Kamloops.

As of 12:21 p.m., the provincial agency said all lanes were blocked and the road was closed.

There is a detour available through Barhartvale Road, and motorists should expect major delays.

Another update will be issued at 1:30 p.m.
