Get Out And Vote

May 9, 2017 | 5:56 AM

Polls are open at 8 o’clock for today’s provincial election.

As they were during the advance polls, they will run until 8 tonight.

District Elections Officer in Vernon-Monashee, Jan Mori, says look for your assigned voting place on your card.

It is in the top left corner of your `Where To Vote“ card.

`If you go to your assigned voting place it`s very simple, you just walk up, you sign the voting book. They give you a ballot, you make the mark and you`re finished.“

You can go to a different polling station but will be a little longer as you are considered an absentee voter.

You will need your “Where to Vote Card” or your drivers license.

If you have neither, you need two pieces of ID- one of which shows your residential address.

You can also vote for your candidate while in a different riding.

`Yes you can. What they do is they give you a write in ballot and a book with the list of the candidates and you just go behind the screen and hand write – hand print the name of the candidate you wish to vote for.`

Those ballots are then forwarded to the respective riding.

As for the best time to vote, generally, the midday sees fewer lineups.

`Usually it is, because of course, in the morning you’ve got people who want to vote before they go to work and then again after work.`

There are 47 thousand 373 registered voters in the riding.

Once the polls close, Kiss – Fm news will be providing comprehensive coverage of the results both on air and online.
