Kelowna outlines summer safety plans as event season ramps up

Jun 25, 2026 | 2:00 PM

As Kelowna prepares for another busy summer of festivals, events and tourism, the city is highlighting a series of safety initiatives aimed at supporting residents and visitors.

City officials say departments are working alongside RCMP, Bylaw Services, event organizers and community partners to coordinate safety planning for major events throughout the season.

The city says the approach focuses on clear communication, defined responsibilities and the ability to respond quickly when issues arise.

Several programs are also returning or expanding this summer, including the downtown Bike Valet service, which offers free monitored bicycle parking during major events and busy periods.

Kelowna is also continuing its URBA On Call program, which provides an on the ground presence in key areas to assist businesses, residents and visitors while helping connect people with available services and resources.

The city is also encouraging participation in its voluntary CCTV Registry program. The registry allows residents and businesses to identify the location of security cameras, helping police and emergency responders locate potential video evidence more quickly when incidents occur nearby.

Officials say the combined efforts are intended to help create a safe and welcoming environment as activity increases across the city during the summer months.
