Kindale Facilities Flooded

Kindale is busy moping up and re-arranging day programming after receiving extensive damage to two of its Armstrong locations as a result of the flooding in the city on Saturday.

“Everything was fine at the end of the day on Friday. It is hard to imagine how quickly everything changed,” says B Elliott, Kindale Executive Director.

Bechtold Centre and Independent Generation both on Patterson Avenue in Armstrong were heavily damaged. There was no damage to the Lydia Boss Centre except for a swimming pool
in the parking lot.

One of the tenants from the Lydia Boss Centre texted the attached photos at 7:30am on Saturday.

Kindale and Okanagan Restoration were on site early Saturday morning to turn off power and water.

“Right now we are in the process of accessing damage, reviewing insurance and deductibles to determine the full extent of the financial implications,” says Elliott. “Programming happening at Bechtold and Independent Generation was only interrupted for one day, Monday, May 8th.

Due to fundraising efforts over the years, a fleet of vehicles will be on hand to transport people displaced from programming at Bechtold and Independent Generation to Mainstreet Connections and Seaton Centre in Vernon until repairs can be completed.

“We are very thankful that no one was hurt, adds Elliott.

The Kindale Thrift Store, which is part of Bechtold Centre in Armstrong will be closed until power and water can be restored.

Peope are asked not to drop off donations to the Armstrong store during this time.

“We are grateful for any Thrift Store donations to be dropped off at our Vernon or Salmon Arm stores,” says Cindy Masters, Kindale Development Officer.
