Enderby Water Plan

The local water state of emergency in Enderby continues.

All residents and businesses West of the bridge are expected to conserve water, including eliminating all non-essential water use, limiting essential water use to the bare minimum and using bottled water for drinking.

This is all due to high turbidity making it difficult for the city’s water utility to process water.

Meanwhile, efforts are in the works to install a temporary water line across the Shuswap River.

The permanent line was recently damaged.

The city’s Chief Administrative Officer, Tate Bengston, says work could begin this week.

” We’re nearing the last stage of implementing a temporary solution, which would involve bringing
a water line over the top of the bridge itself as a way to reconnect the sources.”

It’s a complex procedure.

“It’s not just unrolling a line unfortunately. It’s a matter of ensuring the line is deployed in a way that is safe and ensures that uit actually doesn’t cause further worse issues, so we need to make sure we do it right the first time.”

Tate Bengston says they’ve had to get various agency approvals for the project.

” We’ve had to get approvals from Interior Health, Splatsin band, and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and right now we’re just in the last stages of going through approval with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.”

The plan is still to install a new permanent underwater line.

Work on that is still about 12 weeks away.
