Water restrictions implemented in Spallumcheen

Jul 28, 2022 | 2:15 PM

Spallumcheen has initiated Stage 2 water restrictions due to stress on the township’s water system.

During Stage 2, no one is allowed to use sprinkler or irrigation systems to water a lawn, garden trees or shrubs, or wash driveways, sidewalks, parking lots or exterior building surfaces.

Only hand-watering is allowed between 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to midnight. Even numbered addresses are permitted to water during those hours on even days of the calendar, while odd numbered addresses are permitted on odd days.

Watering a lawn, flower or vegetable garden, trees, shrubs or landscaped area can be done with a hand-held container or with a hose equipped with a shut-off nozzle during the prescribed Stage 1 watering hours, but only if the combined space does not exceed one acre.

Hand-watering of newly planted trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables, new sod or newly seeded lawn is also permitted for up to 24 hours after planting.

People can wash a vehicle using a hand-held container or hose with shut-off nozzle during the prescribed watering hours, and pools, hot tubs, ponds and decorative fountains can only be topped up during the prescribed watering hours.

The above mentioned watering schedule applies to washing vehicles and topping up pools and water features as well.

Residents are encouraged to practive water conservation during extreme temperatures to not add stress to the water system.
