Vernon area COVID-19 vaccination rates saw minor gain over past week

The Vernon/Coldstream health region did not see much of an increase in COVID-19 vaccination rates over the past week.

Data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) shows that the only change to local vaccination coverage was a one per cent increase to the second dose rates in the 18 and over demographic

As of Monday, Feb.28, the vaccination rates for the Vernon/Coldstream area were recorded at:

  • 5+: 85 per cent (first doses) 81 per cent (+1) second doses)
  • 18+: 88 per cent, 86 percent (+1)
  • 5-11: 46 per cent (first doses)
  • 12-17: 84 per cent, 80 per cent
  • 18-49: 83 per cent, 80 per cent
  • 50+*: 90 per cent (second dose), 71 per cent (third doses)
  • 70+: 81 per cent (third doses)

*The BCCDC did not post first dose rates for the 50 and over age group Monday, but as of Feb. 21 the coverage was 92 per cent.

The BCCDC data shows Kamloops Centre South had the highest vaccinations for all age groups in the Interior. As of Monday, the health area had first dose vaccination rates of 61 per cent for the five to 11 age group, 91 per cent for the 12 to 17 group, and 99 per cent coverage for the 18 to 49 group. The area also had the highest third dose rates for the 50 and over group at 78 per cent and for the 70 and over demographic at 85 per cent.

Kettle Valley had the lowest first dose vaccination rates in the Interior for the five to 11 age group at 23 per cent and the 12 to 17 group at 49 per cent, while Enderby had the lowest rate for the 18 to 49 demographic at 66 per cent. The BCCDC data also showed that Kettle Valley had the lowest third dose rates for those aged 50 and over at 56 per cent, and for the 70 and over age group at 64 per cent.

  • Vernon/Coldstream: 85 per cent (first dose), 81 per cent (+1) (second dose)
  • Armstrong/Spallumcheen: 76 per cent, 72 per cent
  • North Okanagan/Lumby: 77 per cent, 74 percent (+1)
  • Lake Country: 82 per cent, 78 per cent
  • Central Okanagan Rural: 82 per cent, 78 per cent
  • Downtown Kelowna: 91 per cent, 86 per cent
  • Glenmore: 93 per cent, 88 per cent
  • Okanagan Mission: 89 per cent, 85 per cent
  • West Kelowna: 86 per cent, 82 per cent
  • Enderby: 71 per cent, 67 per cent
  • Salmon Arm: 80 per cent, 76 per cent
  • Penticton: 88 per cent (+1), 84 per cent (+1)
  • Summerland: 86 per cent, 83 per cent (+1)
  • Merritt: 80 per cent, 75 per cent (+1)
  • Lower Thompson: 81 per cent, 77 per cent (+1)
  • Kamloops Centre North: 86 per cent , 81 per cent
  • Kamloops Centre South: 94 per cent, 89 per cent (+1)
  • Princeton: 83 per cent (+1), 78 per cent
  • Keremeos: 82 per cent, 78 per cent
  • Southern Okanagan: 90 per cent, 86 per cent
  • Kettle Valley: 72 per cent, 69 per cent (+1)
  • Grand Forks: 80 per cent, 76 per cent (+1)

As a whole, the vaccination coverage for Interior residents aged five and over was recorded at 85 per cent for first doses, 81 per cent for second jabs and 47 per cent for third shots.

The provincial figures as of Monday were 91 per cent for first doses, 86 per cent for second jabs and 52 per cent for booster shots.
