Lumby Keeps Budget Increase Low

May 3, 2017 | 6:53 AM

Lumby Council has adopted its new budget with a 1.18 per cent tax increase.

Mayor Kevin Acton says it’s on the low side thanks to some growth that’s occurred in the village.

But homeowners do have other increases.

” Some of the utilities are going up a little bit.The water and the sewer are going up about 70 cents or so.”

That’s just to cover some of the administrative costs that weren’t being met.

Mayor Acton is happy to keep the budget low.

” Not huge increases. It’s something everybody should be able to bare and it’s not going to make a huge impact on homes, As a matter of fact, with assessments the way they were this year, probably some homes will see a decrease in their taxes.”

The Mayor says generally, people are happy with what they are getting for their dollar.

‘Just a little bit of explaining here and there as to what was going on and what was happening, what we’re doing with the money and why.”

Acton says a lot of infrastructure work over the past few years has been done with help from grants.
