The 62nd annual Vernon Winter Carnival has so far lived up to its theme: ‘Snow much fun.’

Organizers say the events on the opening weekend were well attended including the parade which was making a return after not being held last year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of people lined the parade route for the one-hour event.

“We were so happy to see the return of the parade, and to see balloons in the air,” Carnival’s executive director Vicki Proulx told Vernon Matters.

Proulx said the Winter Playground at the DND grounds has been a huge hit with families, and continues every day until Sunday.

Proulx added there is lots of fun evening events this week:

  • Arrest the Best is happening all this week
  • Blues Bands – live music at O’Keefe Ranch (Tuesday and Thursday)
  • Disc Golf at Lakers clubhouse on Saturday Feb. 12
  • The Party in Plaid at O’Keefe Ranch on Saturday evening
  • The Winter Playground and Igloo ice bar will continue until Feb. 13
