There were another 2,960 cases of COVID 19 diagnosed in B.C. since Friday.

That includes 696 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 1,845 in Fraser Valley Health, 108 in Vancouver Island Health, 211 for Interior Health and 100 in Northern Health.

Eight more people have died, bringing the death toll to 1,538, including a two-year-old Fraser Valley child, who passed away at B.C. Children’s Hospital. The child was the youngest person in B.C. to perish from COVID.

“It reminds us of the vicious nature of this virus,” provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry stated.

Henry said the child had pre-existing health conditions.

There are 9,353 active cases, with 441 people in hospital, including 138 in critical or intensive care.

Monitoring continues of 14,711 people.

Health Minister Adrian Dix reported that several key hospitals are now at over 95 per cent of base bed capacity, including Kelowna General and Penticton Regional hospitals.

Some elective surgeries may have to be cancelled and some patients may be transferred within health regions to hospitals that have more capacity.
