Luxury storage company expands to Vernon

When just any old garage won’t do for your special ride, a new concept for Vernon should be operational later this year.

A company that has made its name developing high end luxury storage units has applied for a development permit for properties at 3101, 3103 and 3107 on 45th Avenue.

The property is the former location of Interior Auto Wreckers.

The Vaults Development Group Inc. built two facilities in Kelowna and one in Calgary, featuring heated storage for boats, cars and motorcycles coupled with washrooms and mezzanine areas outfitted to the clients’ needs. Previous developments have featured pool tables, big screen TVs, bar and lounge areas and so on. The units cannot be lived in.

There will be 20 strata units as part of the 32,326 square foot development, which the company hopes to have operational by winter 2021.

At the same time, the company is adding to the city’s industrial inventory, with a project on the same site called ‘The Commerce’ featuring three buildings and 49 strata units with a total square footage of 77,862.

“If you look at industrial in the Lower Mainland and the same in Kelowna, it’s a very tight market,” Kevin Poole, manager of economic development and tourism said. “Some of these developers have experience in Vernon already and feel that the market is under served.”

This is the second light industrial and commercial facility to come on stream in the area.

Silver Star Gateway Business Park is now leasing phase one of its three phases. The five-building project on nine acres of land represents Vernon’s first new supply in years bringing over 115,000 square feet of prime leasing opportunities, with units starting at 3,100 square feet.

“It’s great for the taxbase and an incubator; these small spaces often lead to larger operations,” Poole added.
