Work ongoing to move Silver Star sewer to the RDNO operations

Work to switch the wastewater collection and treatment services for Silver Star village from a private company to the local government is moving along.

In 2023, the Regional District of North Okanagan, through the Alternative Approval Process, received electoral approval to take out a loan to acquire and take over operations and management of the sewer system from a private company.

The RDNO borrowed $4.5-million for this purpose, and entered into negotiations with Silverhawk Utilities Inc.

In an update on the process, the RDNO said it still in the discussion and an agreement had not been finalized, with Silverhawk still operating the system as of time of publication.

“The RDNO remains committed to keeping the community informed as discussions progress, with no definite timelines set,” the regional district said.
