B.C.is reporting 549 new COVID-19 cases over the long weekend, but B.C.’s top doctor doesn’t see infection rates increasing.

Dr. Bonnie Henry pointed-out at her Tuesday COVID update that was over four days.

“The numbers are higher than what we would like to see and averaging higher than what we were seeing the past week, but you have to look at them in context,” said Henry. “Lab tests have increased and a backlog from last week was cleared over the weekend. The team processed an extra days worth of tests, about 6,000 to clear that backlog, primarily in the Fraser Health Region, and we see that in the numbers,” stated Henry.

Henry said the active cases and the percentage of positive tests remains stable.

“We continue to be under two percent. Over the past weekend, it was 1.39 per cent of the tests that were done that were positive,” she said.

Of the new cases, 23 were in Interior Health (IH).
