Locked door causes concern in parking lot

Vernon Fire Rescue responded to a report of a child locked in a car during the sweltering heat Tuesday afternoon.

The Fire Service told Vernon Matters a mother had put her child in the vehicle’s child seat in the Polson Mall parking lot when the door locked for some reason, with the child and keys in the vehicle.

A bystander was able to get the door open and the child was OK.

“The child was released from the car with no medical attention required. The child was not left unattended at anytime,” said Jodi Barrie from Vernon Fire Rescue.

Barrie said the fire crew arrived at the scene and was not required.
