A 49-year-old Vernon man is facing assault charges after an incident near Kal Beach in Coldstream.

A report of an assault — and a machete at the scene — led to a multi-unit response by police to the 13900 block of Kalamalka Road, near Westkal Road, Thursday afternoon (July 23) around 4 p.m.

Once on the scene, police determined two men and one woman were involved in an incident.

“A motorcyclist, passing through the area, witnessed a male allegedly assault a woman and pulled over to render her assistance,” stated RCMP Const. Kelly Brett, media relations officer. “Upon intervening, the Good Samaritan found himself in an altercation with the suspect male, resulting in minor injuries to both parties.”

No weapons were produced but one man did have a machete in his possession.

The female victim received no physical injuries.

“A 49-year-old male from Vernon was arrested on two counts of assault and is scheduled to appear before the court on a future date,” Brett added.
