Vernon city council is keen to get residents more active while following the COVID-19 restrictions put in place by B.C.’s provincial health officer.

Mayor Victor Cumming said the peanut pool at Lakeview Park in East Hill and the Lavington outdoor pool in Coldstream are expected to open soon. The Lavington pool will open on Friday.

Cumming said Kal Tire Place North might have some ice in the arena soon depending on the number of bookings.

“Some people have indicated significant interest there to book and use the arena under the restrictions as set by the province,” Cumming said.

Youth recreation summer camps are going forward.

“Those are filling very quickly for youth,” he said.

Cumming points out there are no fees for people using the outdoor pools.

“It’s not a revenue thing. It’s something that’s just done for general community benefit and therefore we’re really keen to get them open now that summer seems to have arrived,” he said.

The mayor added the Polson Spray Park is not ready to reopen.

“Right now, it’s just too damp with the high water affecting the grass and the area around it, so we’ll hold out on that until the area dries out.”
