A number of non-profits in the Vernon area will be getting grants from the City of Vernon.
Mayor Victor Cumming and council approved the recipients of discretionary grants at a recent council meeting.
- $5,000 to the North Okanagan Cycling Society to finish a mountain bike trail in Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park.
- $3,300 to the North Okanagan Optimists Club for playground boxes in the city
- $4,000 to North Valley Gymnastics for equipment
- $1,000 to Vernon Rowing Club to help with dock improvements
- $6,375 to Vernon Girls Trumpet Band for uniforms
- $5,000 to Powerhouse Theatre to host school performances next year.
Sixteen other groups that applied for funding were denied grants, all for the stated reason that “the city has limited funds for disbursement.”
