Traffic will be stopped

Safety rules in place for annual grad picture on courthouse steps

Jun 16, 2020 | 2:21 PM

A Vernon graduation tradition will continue, with some changes to accomodate COVID-19 safety guidelines.

As part of 2020 graduation activities, the Vernon Secondary School grads will have their picture taken on the courthouse steps this Thursday (June 18) from 1:45 to 3 p.m.

Normally the whole grad class is pictured on the steps, but due to the physical distancing guidelines, organizers say the photographers will need to take nine shots of 16 grads at a time.

As a result, the RCMP say there will be be traffic disruption in that area of 27th Street during that time.

The grad committee says each group of 16 grads will be spaced appropriately in groups on the courthouse steps. Once the group is in place, traffic will be stopped for about three minutes for the picture and then can flow again until the next group arrives and are ready for the next photo.

The VSS grads will paint Suicide Hill on 30th Ave. Wednesday (June 17) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
