City of Vernon paycheques in spotlight

The City of Vernon spent just over 26 million dollars to pay its staff and their expenses last year.

That included 133 staff who made $75,000 or more which is documented each year in the city’s employee remuneration and expenses report.

The top paid employee in 2019 was chief administrator officer Will Pearce who had a salary of $219,868, plus another $9,453 in expenses.

Director of corporate services and deputy CAO Patti Bridal was next on the salary list at $162,843 plus $5,003 in expenses.

Third on the salary list is Shirley Koenig, director of operation services who recently retired, at $161,219, with $272 in expenses.

Meantime, the City of Vernon spent $286,539 to pay the mayor and six councillors last year.

In documents released by the city, Mayor Victor Cumming made $88,909 in salary, and also had $4,694 in expenses.

Councillor pay ranged from a low of $32,288 for Kari Gares to a high of $33,393 to Brian Quiring and Akbal Mund.

Scott Anderson had the biggest expense bill on council at $5,692 ahead of Cumming at $4,694.
