Applications nearing an end

Another pot shop approved by Vernon council

Vernon currently has about ten recreational cannabis stores — and now another one has got the green light from the city.

Council has approved a pot shop in the Andre’s Plaza at 200A-3107 48th Avenue which next goes to the province for license consideration.

The applicant originally applied for a downtown site prior to a moratorium being imposed in the business improvement area last July, and was allowed to seek another location.

“To change location you have to go back through the province and then back to us, so they have done that,” Mayor Victor Cumming said.

Cumming said they are likely near the end of the interested applicants for cannabis stores.

“We’re very close to the end. We’ll see what happens with these other applicants that have done a similar process, or came before us and it was delayed or something. There is also a number of applications that have been approved but have not applied for business licenses or haven’t upgraded the building they are going to be in, so we don’t know what’s happening with those others,” Cumming told Vernon Matters.
