Vernon schools planning ‘alternate’ graduation events
Alternate graduation plans will be discussed over the coming weeks by secondary schools and their grad committees in Vernon, Coldstream and Lumby.
In an email sent to students and parents, School District 22 said the traditional grad ceremonies and dry grad activities “cannot happen” under the current provincial health orders.
“We all want to celebrate safely and given the message from the provincial health officer around respecting social distancing and no large gatherings, it is time to consider developing alternate graduation plans,” said the update from superintendent Joe Rogers and the principals of Charles Bloom, Kalamalka, VSS, Fulton, Seaton and the alternate schools.
Rogers and the local principals say they want to find a meaningful way to recognize the 2020 grad class and make it an historic event for everyone.
