Will be annexed into the city

Mayor says BX Elementary to get city sewer service ‘immediately’

Vernon city council has given final approval to allow BX Elementary School to connect to city sewer service.

Council provided support to an official community plan text amendment bylaw (boundary extension) after a public hearing at its meeting this week.

“There was no one from the public there. We had two formal letters, both indicating support,” Mayor Victor Cumming said.

The school on Silver Star Road, is currently undergoing an $11.4 million expansion to add 240 student spaces.

Cumming said the school site, which is currently located in Regional District of North Okanagan Area C, will be annexed into the city, but that process handled by the B.C. government could take up to two years.

“It was a double-barrelled approval [by council]. One is to provide it to them [sewer service] immediately, and the second part is they will come into the city once that’s gone through all the processes,” Cumming told Vernon Matters.

School District 22 requested the connection to the city’s sewer service for the school.
