City to add crime-resistant parking meters
The City of Vernon is going to invest $225,000 into replacing parking meters after 350 were vandalized in the city.
Council approved spending $137,000 to purchase and replace 350 damaged meters plus another $88,000 to buy high-strength, ductile, dome-type meters.
Mayor Victor Cumming said the new meters will be able to withstand more vandalism attempts.
“We’re following the practice in Penticton and Kelowna which have created parking meters much more robust and able to deal with the attempts at vandalism than the meters we currently have,” Cumming told Vernon Matters.
