Day of Mourning recognized, but no service
This year’s national day of mourning ceremony in Vernon will not take place due to COVID-19 restrictions, but residents can still pay their respects.
The day honours workers who have been killed, injured, or suffered illness as a result of work-related incidents.
The City of Vernon is is asking residents to join it in a moment of silence at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning (April 28).
“Tomorrow, we will take a moment to pause and pay tribute,” Mayor Victor Cumming said. “Collectively, we will honour those whose lives have changed – both the workers and their families and loved ones. This year in particular, we grieve as we think of the tragedy that took place in Nova Scotia last week and the loss of Const. Heidi Stevenson, among many others. We stand with each of you in support and with thanks for the sacrifices that have been made in order to serve others.”
