Another white-out hitting the region

Another storm is hitting the Okanagan, and it’s expected to bring quite a bit more snow and create challenges for drivers, and air travellers.

Snowfall warnings are in effect for areas like the North and Central Okanagan, the Coquihalla and Connector highways, and the Trans-Canada Highway through the Rogers Pass.

“An approaching Pacific warm front will bring snow, heavy at times, to the central and north Okanagan today through tonight,” stated the advisory.

Environment Canada is forecasting a “long period of snowfall,” with 15 to 25 centimetres expected through tonight, and the snow changing to showers Tuesday as warmer weather moves in.

The mountain highway passes could get up to 15 centimetres today and 10 to 20 centimetres tonight.

“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous,” the advisory said.

Road conditions are available at www.drivebc.ca.

A travel advisory is in effect on Highway 1 between MacDonald showshed and Lanark snowshed west of Glacier National Park’s West Boundary due to poor visibility from a lighting failure in the snow sheds.

Avalanche control work is also scheduled for a couple of areas on Highway 1 Monday.

There have been a number of delays and cancelations today at Kelowna International Airport today due to visibility issues.
