A recent rash of thefts from Vernon auto parts stores has police reminding consumers to be wary if products like mufflers, catalytic converters and suspension kits are offered for sale.
“If you do buy them, you are always looking at possession of stolen property, if it’s reasonable that you would have expected to know that it was stolen,” says Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy.
Noseworthy says the item could also be seized as part of a police investigation, and could be returned to the original owner.
“In that case, you would be out your money and would not get the item either.”
She says you can contact police or Crime Stoppers if you are ever in doubt about a product.
