Petition Goal In Sight

The goal is in sight for local petitions to get ambulance paramedics in BC declared an essential service similar to police and firefighters.

Spokesman Dean Perry says canvassers should be able to pass the threshold of 4,750 for Vernon-Monashee at the Wholesale Club Saturday.

“We’re still going to keep the events going. We need a little cushion for any that Elections BC might disallow. Our goal is to hit 6,000 for Vernon Monashee,” Perry tells Kiss FM

Perry says they need another 1,000 signatures in the Shuswap riding to reach the required 4,091, and will be at Askew’s in Armstrong from 2 to 6 today.

The petition needs to get support from at least 10% of registered voters in all 85 BC ridings by April 10, for the government to consider it.

“The ball is rolling, so to speak, and the momentum is there now. We’ve got a lot of people coming out to help gather signatures at events, and there’s more people aware of what we’re trying to accomplish,” adds Perry, who is a paramedic in Vernon.

Perry was not aware of other ridings reaching their thresholds yet.
