Vipers coach calls out ‘older guys’ to start producing

The Vernon Vipers continue to be snake bit.

For the third straight game, they were held off the scoresheet, losing 2-0 to the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

It was the team’s fourth straight loss.

Vipers Head Coach Jason McKee says their “compete level” was where it needed to be, holding the Chiefs, who have the second best offence in the BCHL, to just 17 shots.

“We did a good job there. Unfortunately we had one giveaway and a second one found its way into the back of the net, but we played well defensively,” McKee told Graham Turnbull in the post game show on Beach Radio.

McKee says their offence is what’s hurting them right now.

“There is no hiding behind that. We’ve got to find ways. I think the positive tonight was our young guys really set the tone for us. The Shostak, Glen and Fudger line, they were outstanding. To be frank, we need some older guys to start producing,” he said.

Vernon managed 22 shots on Chiefs goalie Mathieu Caron who got the shutout.

Next up for the 3-6 Vipers will be the last place Merrritt Centennials (2 points behind Vernon) at Kal Tire Place Friday, and the Chilliwack Chiefs in town Saturday.
