Performing arts center seeking funding boost for repairs

Jul 2, 2019 | 5:45 AM

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Center is asking the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee for a funding boost in order complete renovations and update aging equipment.

The society is requesting a $30,000 increase in funds to resurface the stage loading bay, complete electrical upgrades for the stage and purchase a new soundboard.

The boost in funds would also allow the society to be considered for a $75,000 grant from the Federal Cultural Spaces program.

The society already applied, but approval is contingent on the funding increase from the regional district.

If the grant application is successful, the additional money would be used to replace the original theatre equipment, such as the projector and fog lights that have started to fall apart, according to staff.

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Center is owned by the regional district, and the society holds an operating agreement.

The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee is expected to vote on the funding increase at its next meeting on July 4.
