Update: Police investigate pedestrian being hit by driver

Update

A man was arrested for allegedly driving while impaired after hitting a pedestrian in downtown Vernon.

RCMP say a 59 year old man suffered serious but non life threatening injuries around 9 p.m. Tuesday night after being hit by a vehicle at 30th Avenue and 32nd Street.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the front line officer entered into an impaired investigation after the male driver, of the involved vehicle, displayed signs and symptoms of intoxication. The male was subsequently arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and released with documentation to appear in court,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.

“Drivers who choose to operate motor vehicles while impaired are a threat to the safety of both the motoring and pedestrian public,” adds Brett. “The RCMP is committed to removing these drivers from our roadways.”

RCMP are thanking members of the public that stopped to render assistance to the pedestrian just after the collision occurred.

Several police cruisers were on scene along 32 street and 30 avenue at approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Traffic along 30 avenue was not being allowed through as police investigated the incident.
