New deal for college workers

Okanagan College and its faculty have ratified a new three year labour deal.

It runs from April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2022, and includes general wage hikes of 2% a year.

It covers 349 members of the BCGEU local 707 who work as instructors. assistant instructors, and technical staff.

That is one of five agreements ratified by local unions, their institutions and the Post-Secondary Employers’ Association board, all under the same terms.

The other deals cover Northern Lights College and BCGEU Local 710, representing 199 members, Camosun College and BCGEU Local 701, with 164 members, Coast Mountain College and 155 members of BCGEU Local 712, and Selkirk College and BCGEU Local 709, representing 138 members.

Coast Mountain, Selkirk and OC each negotiated to establish a fund to provide support to faculty, either individually or as groups, to plan and undertake innovative projects that lead to improvements in the student experience and program sustainability.
