Toddler Falls From Balcony

RCMP are investigating after a report that a toddler fell from the balcony of a third floor apartment in Rutland.

The incident happened on Saturday morning in the 100 block of Gerstmar Road where a neighbor was woken up by her barking dogs and heard a young child screaming.

“The two-year-old boy sustained serious bodily injuries as a result of the fall,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “He was rushed to a local hospital by BC Emergency Health Services for a medical assessment and treatment. Police have been told that medical professionals determined that it would be necessary for the child to be air lifted to Vancouver for advanced care.”

RCMP and provincial officials from the Ministry of Child and Family Development are looking into what happened.
