Resort Opening delayed

Resort Opening Delayed

Nov 19, 2018 | 2:16 PM

Silver Star Mountain Resort needs more snow to open its alpine season.

It had been scheduled to start this Thursday, but it’s now subject to getting more precipitation.

“Conditions change quickly and with more precipitation on the way it is hoped that opening will happen soon,” says Sales and Marketing Director Ian Jenkins.

“The weather right now is a temperature inversion with a high of 2.5 degrees in the alpine today and same again tomorrow,” says Jenkins. “There is some precipitation coming on Thursday so hopefully this will cool off the alpine temperature and help to fill in the few spots where we need it. To have a high quality and safe environment for our guests to enjoy we need a bit more snow to get open.”

The resort was able to open its Nordic-cross country season last Friday, with 52 of the 55 kilometre trail network open.

Jenkins says once it opens, the resort will be holding its opening activities on the new Des Schumann Summit Express Gondola (pictured) that will have a capacity of 1,200 people per hour and move guests to the top of the mountain in a third of the time as the former Summit chair.
